with Sarah Thornton, dynamic speaker, GENDER advocate, and member of the LGBTQ+ Community
Allies are a force for amplifying LGBTQ+ voices and provide valuable support to the community, but how do you become a strong gender ally? Allyship doesn’t have to be scary or difficult to understand. Join us to learn about the unique struggles of women in the LGBTQ+ community and how you can step into allyship with confidence. “Until we are all free, we are none of us free." -Emma Lazarus
In this dynamic, interactive workshop, you will learn about:
How transphobia hurts ALL women
Diversity of identities within LGBTIQ communities (also called “intersectionality”)
The risks of violence experienced by trans women daily
Affirming responses to someone coming out or sharing their pronouns
Appropriate use of gender pronouns and what to do/say when you misgender someone
NOTE: This session will NOT be recorded in an effort to increase psychological safety of the participants and encourage more open dialogue.
NOTE: SHE NC suspended all event and membership fees during the Covid pandemic. While we have continued offering a variety of workshops and speaking events from 2020 through 2022, we will be reinstating fees as of July 2023.
You are invited to enjoy this event for free though we appreciate any financial assistance you may choose to provide as we work towards rebuilding our reserves post-Covid.
Thank you for your continued support!
